Beatrice von Wattenwyl-Haus in Bern

Cover «Beatrice von Wattenwyl-Haus in Bern»

Named after its last owner, Beatrice von Wattenwyl-Haus is a complex of three originally separate medieval townhouses in Berne›s Junkerngasse. Its first extension, added in 1705, was the stately South Wing in the style of Louis XIV; extensive interior refurbishment and restoration work occurred between 1903 and 1907. In 1934, due to a generous bequest, the entire complex and all its valuable contents fell to the Swiss Confederation, to be used as a venue for official and festive occasions hosted by the Federal Council. Enjoy your tour of the state rooms and note the many unique and historic architectural features, precious works of art and pieces of antique furniture that express the tastes of bygone times.
